On the 7th of November, the 29 crew members of the IIUM.FM community had the exciting opportunity to visit the headquarters of Media Prima, the leading media company in Malaysia, owning nationwide radio stations such as Hot FM, Fly FM, and Kool FM, newspaper outlets and online media such as News Straits Times, Berita Harian, and Harian Metro, and most of the major free-to-air television channels that many Malaysians tune into on a daily basis, including TV3, ntv7, and TV9.

The visit started at around 10:50 AM, and when we arrived, we were greeted by Puan Nik Azura, the representative of Media Prima Audio who showed us around. The first place we were shown was the studio of Fly FM, where the two DJs, Ean and Haniff, greeted us and invited us to go inside. We had the chance to talk to them, ask questions, and were taught about the process of a radio station, such as how the music list works and how they interact with callers. After that, we moved on to the second studio, Kool FM. Inside, we met DJ Sarancak, with whom we also got to talk and take a group photo. We then moved on to the jamming studio, where we had the occasion of meeting the CEO of Media Prima Audio, Mr. Nazri Noran, who told us about the studio and Media Prima and answered all our questions. From there, we went to the last place, the Platinum Podcast Studio, to learn about podcasts and the process of how one is produced.

After the tour of the audio studio, we moved on to the news division. We were shown the studios of nationwide famous news stations such as Buletin Utama and Buletin TV9. Cik Daneil, the station manager, explained and showed us how the broadcasting and news system operates. We also went inside the main operating room of TV3 and learned about the channel system and advertisements on television.

The visit gave us an insight into how the broadcasting industry works and provided inspiration and new knowledge that we can later apply to podcasts and news that we broadcast here on IIUM.FM. If you are interested in seeing the visit and the takeaways from the crew members, we have posted the video on Instagram and TikTok.
